Tonny A. is a French performance artist, mover and writer, based in London. He makes performances at the boundaries of dance, live and video art. His work aims to challenge the preconceptions around the representation of the male body and its multiple identities. Tonny has also a growing interest in instant composition which has led him to experiment with objects and space to reset his body as a mutative notion.
Tonny studied first History and Politics at La Sorbonne University in the 90's. A few years after moving to London in 2001, Tonny started to train, at Independent Dance, in somatics and improvisation, notably with choreographers Rosemary Butcher and Joao Fiadeiro. In 2017, Tonny obtained his Masters in Creative Practice at Trinity Laban.
Tonny has performed his solo work since 2006 in UK performance platforms, art venues and festivals. Including: Sexual Acts of Contrition (GFest’s LGBT Arts Festival 2009), (Wo)Men & Me (The Blue Elephant, 2011), The O Syndrome (Resolution! The Place 2014). In 2018, Tonny presented The Drumming Experience of OneSelf, his first durational piece, at SPILL Festival, as part of their SPILL Open Platform.
As a performer, Tonny also worked with Leibniz (The Book of Blood, 2007-8), Romeo Castelluci and Societas Raffaello Sanzio (Inferno, 2009), The Hut Project (The Look of Performance, 2012) and Robert Pacitti (Moving Mountains, 2015).
Tonny is thrilled to be a commissioned artist for SPILL Festival and DaDa Fest; he is currently working on a new performance project for both festivals' edition in 2021.
